Get involved with our mission by joining Child & Women Nutrition & Development Volunteer Program
Helping Hands programs focus on the assessment, design, monitoring and evaluation of nutrition & menstrual health programs in rural villages surrounding Udaipur, India.
Our aim is for girls, boys & their caregivers, including pregnant and breastfeeding women, to have access to safe, adequate and appropriate health services, nutrition, education and food.
Our main focuses and current projects include:
Menstrual Health pilot study
Child Nutrition & Protection care
Child Nutrition & Protection
We aim to address and work alongside of Child Care Centres called Anganwadi's in the villages around Udaipur.
We work to assess the children's daily nutritional intake and evaluate deficiencies that may be present. Evaluation helps us understand implementations we can put into place in the villages.
Conducting health camps for Mothers and Children based around severe nutrient deficiencies and chronic health issues. These health camps are kindly sponsored by Bioceuticals - Australian supplement company.
Building connection with the local villages and community to build child protection committees to address various issues including children attending school, child marriage and violence at home.
Menstrual Health
It is difficult to understand that many girls and women in India still have never seen or heard of a menstrual pad in their life. Menstrual health is a taboo topic in India where education is very lacking. Even if a woman wants to use a pad she may not have access to affordable pads or is too shy to buy one.
The impact of having a period in India is huge which can cause illness, missing school or work and lack of self confidence.
Our aims are to:
Raise awareness around this taboo topic in India - the more that it gets spoken about, the more it will be normalised rather than it holding the stigma of seeming impure
Provide educational workshops for girls and women around menstrual hygiene to prevent spreading of infections and illness
Education around the use & disposal of pads and menstrual hygiene products
Donations of reusable menstrual pads to the village women Empowerment - Workshops to empower women to sew their own menstrual pads
